Digital cameras, by their electronic nature, are highly susceptible to being damaged by voltage spikes. Camera manufacturers recommend no more than 6 volts to set off a flash either by hot shoe or PC connector. Some older flash units may be as high as 280 volts (as reported on the Vivitar 283). Some old units are in the 20 to 30 volt range and will not necessarily cause immediate problems but over time can damage the sync contact. Many older flashes, especially studio strobes, may be as high as 50 to 60 volts. Although we cannot vouch
for these products they seem to be designed to help reduce the possible damage to cameras by high voltage sync.

Bill says he was shooting some photos with his Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR lens and SB900 flash for fill. It was a semi outdoor shoot under a cover. Looking at the photos Bill noticed an odd blurring or camera shake. He was using the VR and could not figure why it was happening so he switched to his 85 1.4 lens and finished the shoot. Bill says at the time, he didn’t give it much thought afterwards until he read on a forum about VR lenses and flashes. He discovered that, because the VR is moving, the elements it can cause an odd blurring when also using a flash. So, turn off your VR when using flash.

Sony is announcing a new professional dye-sublimation printer, model UP-DR80, providing event photographers, portrait studios and retailers a reliable solution for producing digital photo prints.

The new printer’s features include the ability to output both glossy and ProMatte™ finishes with fast print speeds and an advanced dye-sublimation process that does not require many of the harmful chemicals used in film-based printers.

“The UP-DR80 is the ideal printer for professionals who need a high-quality yet light-weight printing solution,” said Lynda Falby, marketing manager for Sony Electronics’ digital photofinishing group. “Whether you’re an event photographer or a portrait studio, our latest professional printer is equipped with the versatile features that professionals need.”

Using Sony’s dye sublimation technology, the unit can print borderless 8″x10″ and 8″x12″ images, and it also supports multi-cut operation, producing 4″x8″, 5″x8″ and 6″x8″ images. The printer can yield a borderless 8×10 print in approximately 63 seconds (excluding processing time).

The printer uses paper-based media to render digital prints with a fine raster texture that is comparable to the look and feel of traditional photo paper. The paper’s print surface is spooled inward on the roll to minimize contamination from dust and fingerprints, and to help eliminate curling of the roll, which results in lower paper waste.

With a footprint of just 12.5″x16.75″x8.13″ (WxDxH) and weighing only 25 lbs, the new printer is among the smallest and lightest full-page, dye-sublimation printers available today.

The unit supports USB 2.0 connectivity to a PC or to any USB interfaced peripheral, and delivers optimal printing for high-resolution photography. It also comes equipped with an easy-to-use color adjustment feature that enables close matching of print color to images displayed on the screen. The printer ships with the software drivers necessary for Windows® 2000, XP and Vista operating systems.

The UP-DR80 professional digital photo printer is expected be available this summer. Stay tuned so you can place your order as soon as it comes out.

One-stop source for photo imaging output becomes the definitive go-to in the country

MARCH 2009 — Behind a fun industry is a company that’s serious about being the best — imageTech Marketing — and they’re well on their way to becoming the biggest and farthest-reaching source out there for photo imaging output needs.

imageTech Marketing recently extended its already widespread reach with the acquisitions of eventphotomarket.com and the Electravision unit of Denny Manufacturing, which includes photoprinteroutlet.com.

This isn’t the first time Doug Schirripa, principal of all three concerns, has expanded the company. Across the country and beyond, imageTech serves as the go-to source for custom imaging solutions for on-location printing for sports, seasonal, event, old time and professional photographers, studios and labs.

“Customer service and support have always been our primary concern, and we are known for true 24/7 service. We don’t just sell products – we offer custom solutions that enhance our customers’ profitability and make it easier to do business. With these acquisitions, our team will serve a even wider range of customers in the photography industry as well as take advantage of a true coast to coast reach to offer the same high level of service to other businesses,” Schirripa said.

It’s been a seamless transition, as both acquired companies have always enjoyed a close working relationship with imageTech. Jim Roshan, founder of EventPhotoMarket.com already shares a similar commitment to customer service as imageTech.

“This will be a winning combination for all involved, especially our customers as our combined product offerings will allow them one-stop shopping for many of their output needs. One stop at the new EventPhotoMarket.com will be all they need,” Roshan said.

imageTech has even received a vote of confidence from the selling parent company of Electravision, Denny Mfg Company.

“We have the utmost confidence in imageTech because they are known throughout the industry for their expertise in photo printers. We will work together through the transition to best serve the needs of our customers,” said Denny Mfg Chairman and CEO, Denny Variali.

MARCH 2009 ⎯ Being last gets such a bum rap. Waiting to be chosen in kickball was perhaps one of the more dreaded of adolescent experiences, but entrants to a current contest actually hope to land in last place.

imageTech Marketing, the one-stop source for all photo imaging output needs, has yet again found an innovative way to unite those in the industry as the launch of their revamped Web site looms. The final e-mail they receive before the debut of their updated site will win a Shinko 2145 printer, worth the tune of about $2,200.

In a time of pinched pennies and uncomfortably tightened belts, people need a little whimsy in their lives. This is not the year to skip the trip, or the kids’ trip, to visit the Easter Bunny. With that remains an evergreen demand for such quality machines as the Shinko 2145, a high-end printer that dispenses memories in such fast clarity it makes its cohorts look like the undesirable teammates in kickball. And it can be yours if you’re the last e-mail in. For more information go to www.imagetechmarketing.com.
