Super Fine Print produces stunning studio quality photo prints by increasing the optical density of the photograph, adding contrast and visual depth. The new, highly requested, Super Fine Matte mimics the traditional finish of matte photo paper for studio quality prints anywhere, anytime using the standard media.

Mitsubishi Reliability and Durability

For traditional dye-sub photo printers, applying a matte finish can increase wear on the print head, however; Mitsubishi print heads are shielded from this wear by an applied protective film that enhances print head durability. And, genuine Mitsubishi media is equipped with a back-layer dye sheet that also protects against print head wear.

The sync (short for synchronize) has an incredibly thin wire running through it, and the PC (Prontor Compur) tip that connects to the camera or radio slave is a weak design (but the industry standard).  The PC end has a pin and collar around it that connects the circuit and fires the flash.  The pin and the collar can be become damaged and cause the flash not to fire. 

To find out the sync cord is broken, take a metal object (I usually use a key) and touch the pin and the collar with it at the same time.  On a working sync cord, it will fire the flash (no! it will NOT shock you).  Several companies make a PC tip conditioner that will straighten and repair the pin and collar that make up a the PC tip.  One type of end that plugs into the flash is known as household and looks likes a two pronged electric plug.  Yes, I have known people who have fried 4×5 shutters plugging them into AC.  The newer standard has become the mono plug.  They look like guitar or ear phone jack.  Whichever you need, buy a couple and keep them handy.  Happy shooting.

Recent dye-sub printers do not have heads that need to be locked for transport, but do need to have the paper and ribbon removed.  You do not want the paper and ribbon bouncing around and potentially damaging the printer’s electronic and mechanical systems.  This type of damage can also void the warranty since all the manufacturers recommend removing the media.  Please keep this in mind the next time you take your printer to an event!

The standard cable works for many cameras, and if the video output is different, it’s simply a matter of connection with the appropriate cable. Many of the cables that originally came with the camera can be used. The monitor comes with an HDMI cable, PC (VGA) cable, HDMI to mini cable and multiple function cable. A DC Cable can be attached to the back of the camera. If necessary, cables and connectors can be found at your local electronics store.

The standard monitor ships with the BP511 battery, standard for many Canon cameras. Therefore, the batteries can be used interchangeably between camera and monitor, which is a convenient feature. The battery charger is universal and works with either Canon or Nikon. For other Canon and Nikon users, the monitor can be ordered with either a Canon LP-E6 or Nikon EN-EL3e battery option.

The kit includes a power supply, vehicle adapter, remote control, camera mount adapter that allows the camera to tilt, or swivel.

When a new OS comes out, whether it is Mac or Windows, there is usually a wait time until new drivers come out for your peripherals like cameras and printers.  As the new OS is nearing release, Apple and Microsoft send developers the software to allow them write new drivers for the new OS. Bear in mind large printer companies like Epson and HP usually have the drivers ready before the release of the new OS. But camera and dye-sub printer manufacturers usually do not have the drivers ready until after, and sometimes long after the OS release. To make matters worse, some older printers will not ever have new drivers written for them.

 

For example, Mac 10.6 came out in August ‘09 and I just upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6 last week. I am still running Windows XP Pro on my Dell but should be upgrading in a month or two to Windows 7. 

 

Avoid the desire to be the first on your block to buy and load a new operating system until you make sure all the new drivers you need are ready and working. Save yourself the headache and remember your business computer is a revenue-generating machine, so if it ain’t broke, think about it before you “fix” it.
